Who am I ? And why do I do photography ?
It all started when I was a young boy, on vacations with my family in Alentejo. My dad, who also loves photography and carries a camera wherever he goes, as long as I remember. It was raining outside, and I went with him to keep him company while he was shooting some of the environment around the hotel. And then, I asked how the camera worked, and he started telling me about Aperture, Speed, and ISO.
At the time he owned a Konica Minolta Dynax 7D, a DSLR new to the market. I remember he handed me the camera and told me to try some shots. I pointed the camera at a plant and tried to figure out how the Field-of-View worked with aperture.
And this was it, the photographic bug caught me to never let go! I fell in love with the idea of capturing moments, and sharing them with the people around me. Freezing emotions, actions, and telling stories through images.
After that, when I was about 18 years old, and I had not been photographing as much, a very good friend of mine called Paulo challenged me to go the Estoril Raceway to get some pictures of the cars. By then my dad already owned a Canon 40D and some lenses. I asked him if I could borrow them, and of course he said yes. And off I went, to meet Paulo at the track and so I started shooting some of the cars that passed by. And then it was again, that feeling! The photographic bug that had went numb, came back.
I started posting images on my Facebook, and sharing them with my friends. By then I also started to buy books about photography, because I wanted to learn more and more. The books from the Portuguese Photographer, Joel Santos, helped me to understand some of the mechanics and technics of photography.
And when the first opportunity to work as photographer presented itself, I just took it.
By now, four years have passed. And looking back, it has been a huge growth. And yet so much do to, and so much to learn ...
